Planning for the Fourth: the Week Ahead

What's happening in Collingswood this week? Here's a preview.

There's lots to do in Collingswood on the Fourth of July, but even without the bike parade, pool games, fireworks and house decorating contest, the borough is already working toward its next big event.

To kick things off this week, the Collingswood borough commissioners will hold their monthly meeting at the community center at 7 p.m.

Then you can support the 2013 Collingswood holiday parade with a night of dining out at West Side Gravy on Tuesday, July 2. Mention the parade, and 15 percent of your bill will be donated to help offset its costs.

Then you can kick off your Fourth of July with a bit of activism, as the Collingswood chapter of GMO NJ leads a Food Freedom March into Westmont to protest genetically modified foodstuffs. Things kick off with a 10 a.m. "mini-rally" at the Old Zane School (756 Haddon Ave, Collingswood), and the event includes a signing of the "Declaration of Independence from Biotech" and an appearance by the Lady Liberty of Labeling.

Can't wait for Thursday? There's plenty of fireworks to be seen throughout the region in the lead-up to the Fourth. Our South Jersey Fourth of July roundup has the scoop

Have a great holiday, everyone.
