But organizer Kenneth Allendoerfer said the real win came from a community that supported the program in its inaugural year.

We are certainly very, very proud of our OMers and very thankful to the coaches and other parentRead More volunteers. Looking forward to Iowa State in 2014.

Vineyards where Copper Sulfate is used there are no invertebrates and no mycelia, the soil is devoidRead More of life. Invertebrates along with mycelia are the soil makers, the builders of the foundation of life on land. Killing the foundation of the whole system. When you keep damaging the natural system you invite invasion of species trying to fill in the gaps. This is a cycle of madness/Insanity

Bennett - the article says your kids "swim" in the lake. Is that true. Also can everyoneRead More just relax with all this copper sulfate talk. yes if used incorrectly you have a point but if used in the correct dose it will be fine. Do you know who works for this company? All environmentally conscious, I'm not sure why everyone thinks this is "big business". Also some kids are highly allergic to bees so this would be a good thing so they can enjoy the playground because sometimes they can't because of your bees

As part of the Newton Creek Watershed Association, we are concerned about water quality throughoutRead More this smaller urban watershed. We also have questions about adding chemical toxins to Newton Lake.Although from what we understand the concentrations will be very low. The ecosystem here is fragile as it is (as indicated by the current algae bloom.) We share the concerns of our neighbors about collateral damage which can occur from adding chemicals even ones deemed "safe". This urban waterway is used by many people and requires regular attention. We look forward to working with the county, the municipalities, concerned residents and others to solve the issues affecting the watershed. We also support efforts to get all storm drain/runoff filtered before it enters the lake. The County decision to take rapid response to the algae and engage active lake management is great. Not a big fan of the new patch. It makes me think I have Attention Deficit Disorder with all theRead More "noise" going on.
Reed Rothchild June 19, 2013 at 11:05 am
Indeed Phil. It looks like "Big Internet" has taken over and ruined the local patch's. IfRead More the Patch originally had this layout it would've folded a long time ago. Beginning of the end.
