Saxophonist and Flutist Eliott Levin at the Jazz in the Wood series!
In December, we had a sold-out crowd to see drummer Charlie Rice and saxophonist Bootsie Barnes, and in January, we have another strong concert coming your way.
Saxophonist/flutist/poet Elliott Levin and his Quartet will be holding forth at the Collingswood Community Center this Thursday at 7:30 pm as part of the long-running Jazz Bridge Neighborhood Concerts Series. http://www.jazzbridge.org/
Classically trained at the University of Oregon and thru private studies with the Philadelphia Orchestra's Michael Guera and jazz pianist Cecil Taylor, Levin has since become one of the region's premier exponents of Free Jazz, and as a published poet, often combines the two aesthetics in performance. His playing, often heard on European stages, is not limited to the avant-garde, as he's spent a good deal of time with the likes of Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes, and the pioneering World Music ensemble, Atzilut. Levin (who will be accompanied by guitarist David Hotep, bassist Howard Cooper, and drummer Ed Watkins) has received awards from New American Radio in New York, the City of Los Angeles Cultural Affairs Department, the Pennsylvania Council for the Arts, and the California Endowment for the Humanities. Don't miss this one of a kind performance. Tickets: $10/$5 students (no advance sales). Free sodas. BYOB. Information: 856-858-8914 http://www.collingswood.com/arts/first-thursday-jazz
