Need Info on Fourth of July Fireworks? Don't Call 911

Camden County reminds residents not to use the emergency system to call for information about area fireworks displays.

It seems like a no-brainer, but Camden County is reminding residents not to call 911 for information about the time and location of fireworks displays as the Fourth of July approaches.

"The 911 system is for emergency calls only," county officials said in a release. "The county’s dispatchers and local police departments are not able to inform residents of the locations and times of fireworks displays or parades in their area. The emergency communication system should never be used for non-emergency information and all events scheduled around the holiday can be found on your municipal website."

Dispatchers at the Camden County Communications Center have received "hundreds of calls in years past" around the 4th of July holiday from people seeking information about fireworks displays and related festivites, said county spokesman Dan Keashen.
