Zombies Bringing the Undead to Collingswood

James A. Garfield Elementary School will host a 5K Zombie Chase to kick-off Halloween.

Before Halloween opens an earthly portal for ghosts and spirits, Collingswood residents should prepare for a mob of brain-eating zombies to invade the borough.

Thanks to 's Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), the undead will take reign of —located at the intersection of Collings Avenue, Park Avenue and Browning Road—on Saturday, Oct. 29, during an hourlong, 5K Zombie Chase.

Proceeds from the ghoulish race—which kickd off at 8:30 a.m., awarding participants prizes for the best zombie costumes and top runners—benefit the PTA.

Funds raised will fuel Garfield's educational incentives, activities and programs, and school events.

Interested runners who pre-register by Oct. 7 may participate for $20 per person; or $25 per person for those who sign-up the day of the race.

Not all undead participants need be runners. Walking zombies and their ghoulish pets are also invited to dress-up and join the chase.

Following the 5K Zombie Crawl, Garfield PTA will host a Trick-Or-Treat Walk, tickets for which may be purchased at $10 per person, or at $20 per family.

The Trick-Or-Treat Walk is scheduled to begin promptly after the Zombie Crawl, at 8:30 a.m.

To register for either event online, visit runsignup.com/Race/NJ/Collingswood/ZombieChase5k . A sign-up fee, ranging from $2-$2.50, is required at the time of online registration.

Both the 5K Zombie Chase and the Trick-Or-Treat Walk will be held at their scheduled dates and times, regardless of rain or inclement weather conditions.
