Collingswood Police Blotter: Drive Safely

From DWI to vehicle theft to fictitious inspection stickers, Collingswood police have made a number of arrests by patrolling the roadways in recent weeks.

DWI
At approximately 10:30 p.m. on April 1, Collingswood police responded to the scene of a single-vehicle accident in Knight Park.

Police said a gold 2000 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Eric Thomas, 27, of Camden City, left the roadway and struck a tree. Police said they also encountered Thomas attempting to leave the area when they arrived.

Thomas failed field sobriety tests and was arrested for driving while intoxicated (DWI) and other motor vehicle offenses, police said. Believing he may have been under the influence of more than just alcohol, police also transported Thomas to Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center for the retrieval of blood and urine samples.

Thomas was released to a sober adult. His vehicle was impounded.

DWI
Around noon on April 5, Collingswood police allegedly saw a 2012 Toyota that was unable to maintain its lane of travel on Ferry Avenue. Driver Brent Reece, 33, of Sicklerville, was arrested for suspicion of DWI, and was transported to police headquarters, where he submitted to a Breathalyzer.

Police said that in addition to having a blood-alcohol content that was more than 1.5-times the legal limit, Reece was found to be wanted on $5,000 in warrants. He was remanded to the Camden County correctional facility.

Vehicle Theft
On April 4, police in Cherry Hill recovered a 1999 Nissan Sentra that had been reported stolen from the Heights of Collingswood parking lot between midnight and 2 p.m. on March 29. An arrest was made, but the case is still under investigation, police say.

Wanted Persons
At 1 a.m. on April 10, officers on patrol in the 100 block of Haddon Avenue stopped a vehicle that was reportedly traveling with no inspection sticker.

Police say the driver provided false identification at the stop, and eventually was discovered to be a person wanted by the Camden County Sheriff’s Department.

Louis Torres, 32, of Camden City, was charged with multiple motor-vehicle infractions and was remanded to the Camden County correctional facility on a no-bail warrant.
