Jersey Mike's Subs Opens with Fundraiser Wednesday

For Matt Catania, it’s all about freshness.

From bread baked in-house to fresh daily produce deliveries to meats sliced right in front of you while you wait for your sub, the Jersey Mike’s franchisee sees it every day—customers who come back because they know they’re getting the good stuff.

“That’s what separates us from everyone else…that’s who we are,” he said.

Catania and his business partner, John Helm, who already run Jersey Mike's locations in Cinnaminson and Moorestown, are opening the first one in Camden County (512 Haddonfield Road) on Wednesday.

“We always knew we were going to come to Cherry Hill,” Catania said, gesturing around the nearly finished store. “When we saw this, we jumped on it right away.”

And to correspond with the opening, they’re offering a coupon good for a free regular-sized sub—spot it on Patch, or grab one from a Cherry Hill West student—with a $1 donation to West.

It’s something they’ve done in both Cinnaminson and Moorestown, raising thousands for the schools there.

“This one, we’re trying to make bigger than any one we’ve done before,” Catania said.

While the menu runs the gamut of sandwiches, Catania said they make sure to do the local favorites right—including getting a South Philly connection for their cheesesteaks, to make everything authentic.

And don’t worry about the sub/hoagie linguistic divide.

“We’ll call them whatever people want, as long as they come in and try it,” joked Catania.
