Collingswood Patch First Look: Benny's Burger Joint

Check out Chef Alex Capasso's new retro digs in downtown Collingswood.

Things are starting to take shape at Benny's Burger Joint, the new restaurant from Blackbird and West Side Gravy chef Alex Capasso.

After Capasso got the go-ahead from the Collingswood planning board to fill his new restaurant with arcade games and other amusements, it only made sense to paint the walls to match.

Benny's Burger Joint is covered in throwback artwork that should help any child of the 70's and 80's play "remember when" games with their dinner guests while explaining to their own kids what characters like Q*bert, Speed Buggy and the PSA-spouting Timer meant to their childhoods.

(Hint: it involves cheese.)

In addition to bubble and air hockey tables, the restaurant has a handful of arcade video games, including one that can dial up any of several classics, from Asteroids to Centipede and Space Invaders.

Benny's Burger Joint will begin with dinner service only at 4 p.m. Tuesday, expanding to lunch and dinner within a week and adding brunch by August 16 and 17.

Capasso is still hiring servers for the location as well, which will be open Tuesday through Sunday. Applicants should enjoy working with kids; prior serving experience is preferred.
