Five Things to Do in Collingswood This Week: 1/7/13 to 1/12/13

There are two big meetings in town—commissioners and school board—plus Second Saturday, a free legal workshop for seniors and a special lecture on human trafficking.

1. Borough Commissioners Meeting

7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7—Collingswood Community Center

It's a double-header Monday night, with the borough commissioners and public school board meeting at the same time. Either way, come on down and participate in the discussion with your local leaders.

2. Board of Education Meeting

7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7—Zane-North Elementary School All-Purpose Room

The first meeting of 2013 will feature the reorganization of the administrative body, including the swearing-in of board members .

3. Legal Workshop for Seniors

2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7—Camden County Store at the Voorhees Town Center

The Camden County Freeholder Board’s Division of Senior and Disabled Services and the Surrogate’s Office will hold free legal workshops for senior and disabled residents to receive a Last Will and Testament, an Advance Directive for Health Care (Living Will) and Power of Attorney at the County Store at Voorhees Town Center on Jan. 7, 14 and 22.  Space is limited; please register at 856-566-2920. 

4. Human Trafficking Awareness Day

7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11—Collingswood Public Library

Collingswood resident Kelly Master delivers a short talk on the presence of sex trafficking in America. Master is the founder of Dining for Dignity (DfD), a nonprofit organization that attempts to raise awareness about the issue.

5. Second Saturday

5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12—downtown Collingswood

All the fun of new art on the Ave., and it starts with gallery openings and live music. It's the first Second Saturday of the year.
