Live Theater, Classic Movies in Collingswood

What's happening in Collingswood today?

Collingswood, here's your itinerary for Tuesday, July 23.

Collingswood Summer Youth Theatre kicks off its 19th season with opening night of The Little Mermaid, a teen production based on the Hans Christian Andersen story

Performances run at 7:30 p.m. nightly, Tuesday through Thursday, with a 1 p.m. Friday matinee, all at the air-conditioned Collingswood Middle School auditorium. Tickets are $6 apiece.

There's also the monthly meeting of the Collingswood Movie Club, from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Collingswood Library. Led by movie blogger Robert Castle, the film presented Tuesday will be 1966's Blow-Up, directed by Michelangelo Antonioni and starring David Hemmings and Vanessa Redgrave.

Castle calls it "an essential if not quintessential film from the 1960s.

"Hemmings is a photographer who has to come to grips with what is and is not real in his world of mod London," he said. "More so, the viewer must come to grips with what is going on this film. Special treat: an appearance by the Yardbirds when Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page were members of that great blues band."

There's also Farm Fresh Restaurant Week, which is happening at a handful of restaurants in town—so make that dinner and a show while you're at it.
