The Krispy Kreme Kampout

Days before the Collingswood Krispy Kreme officially opened, fans had set up camp outside, waiting for the very first Hot Now sign to flash on.

Fans simply couldn't wait for to open at 6 a.m. Tuesday.

At 9 p.m. Sunday evening, the very first camper set up his chair outside of the building, located at the intersection of Cuthbert Boulevard and Haddon Avenue, to wait for Tuesday's grand opening—and get free doughnuts.

"I got here Sunday night; there was no one else here," said Krispy Kreme's first camper, 41-year-old Haddon Township resident Gary Rombald. "They said the first person to walk through the door on opening day gets a free dozen doughnuts every week for a whole year. I'm going to be that guy, because Krispy Kreme is the best doughnuts you can get."

Rombald's mission to be first customer was a serious one.

"I work in the city, in Philadelphia. I used my last two vacation days to come (camp out) here," he said Monday afternoon. "That's commitment—and it's better than driving over to the Fox Chase location, which is the closest Krispy Kreme to this one."

In fact, the opening of the Collingswood location will be Krispy Kreme's very .

By 5 p.m. on Monday, with exactly 13 hours until officially opened doors at 6 a.m. Tuesday morning, 20 people had already set up shop to camp out overnight.

Included in the group of die-hard Krispy Kreme fans was 14-year-old Collingswood resident Evan Prince.

"I got here this afternoon," said Prince on Monday. "And yes, my dad (Collingswood Police Lt. Glenn Prince) knows I'm here. I'm camping out because I want free doughnuts. We brought supplies: a tent, a pillow and some blankets."

Krispy Kreme offered , including doughnuts, T-shirts and coffee, for those who made sure they were the first customers.

Haddon Township residents and 14-year-olds Kim Gaskill and Katie Burns were also among Monday's campers.

"We brought Monopoly, playing cards and a soccer ball" to stay occupied until the opening, Gaskill said.

"It was Kim's idea to camp out," Burns noted. "I was up for it, though. I always went to the Krispy Kreme in Philadelphia with my grandpop and love the doughnuts."

Collingswood , who held a VIP grand opening party for friends Monday evening, came outside to greet his campers.

"Why are we here?" Zaslow yelled to his fans.

"Because we love !" they cried back.

"These are our people, camping out here tonight," Zaslow said. "It's a tribute. A tribute to the brand, that's how I see it."
