Class of 2013 Graduates Remember Collingswood High School

At their graduation day senior breakfast, four members of the class of 2013 looked back on their memories of Collingswood High School (CHS) and talked about their expectations for the future.

Dylan Evangelista, who is headed to UMBC (University of Maryland, Baltimore County), said he’s “sad but happy at the same time” to be leaving behind a lot of school friends whom he doesn’t know if he’ll see again.

“We’re done this chapter of our lives,” said his classmate, Kimmie Stoops.

When asked if there were a particular teacher they would miss, all four sang the praises of math teacher Amy Wiltsey.

“She just cared a lot more about our lives than just math,” said Dan Robinson. “She never gave up until you understood.”

April Dickinson said that a book she read at CHS, My Sister’s Keeper, led her to embrace her chosen career path of nursing, which she will pursue at Rutgers University in the fall.

She said the book taught her that “the doctors plan the battles; the nurses are the ones who stay.

"I want to be a person that’s there for that person and [his or her] family,” Dickinson said.

Robinson is also looking to a career in medicine, and will study athletic training at Liberty University with the ultimate goal of earning his doctorate of physical therapy.

In high school, Robinson broke his ankle "and had to go to physical therapy for a while,” he said.

Although the rehabilitation was a setback to his high school athletic career, the environment of the PT facility “was awesome.” It made Robinson think that the field could be meant for him.

Stoops, who craves competition as much as the spotlight, will study sports communications at Ashland University with the hope of entering a broadcast career.

Stoops got a head start at CHS, where she said, “My teacher threw me into it; it got me more excited about [broadcasting].”

Evangelista hasn’t settled on a major yet, but is another natural performer who might seek out a communications degree.

“When I was younger I wanted to do voiceovers for cartoons,” he said.
