Taxes up $58 on Average in Collingswood's $16.15M Budget

Spending is down in 2013, Collingswood Mayor James Maley says.

Collingswood borough commissioners approved a $16.155 million municipal budget for 2013 at a brief special meeting Monday night.

Although total appropriations are only up seven-tenths of a cent per $100 levied from year-ago levels, (88.5¢ versus 87.8¢ in 2012), the average household (valued at $231,300) will see a $58 tax increase.

"Spending is down," Mayor James Maley said.

However, the borough debt service increased $1.355 million—from $2.821 million in 2012 to $4.176 million in 2013—due to the sale of the Old Zane School and a few of the LumberYard units, as Maley previously explained.

As Collingswood satisfies the conditions for municipal self-examination (see NJSA 40A:4-78), its budget is only subject to state review every three years.
