'Strange Bike,' Stuffed Pockets Betray Alleged Burglar

Collingswood police say it didn't help 43-year-old Cornell David Woods that he ducked behind a tree as they approached, either.

If all their suspects left a trail of evidence like accused vehicle burglar Cornell David Woods did, Collingswood police would have a lot easier time tracking them down.

Around 7 p.m. on June 4, police responded to a call from a resident in the 700 block of Colford Avenue who said there was a strange bike on her lawn that did not belong to her.

A little while later, officers on patrol in the 500 block of Bettlewood Avenue observed a pedestrian step behind a big tree when he saw the vehicle pass by.

They doubled back, and noticed that the man, later identified as Woods, a 43-year-old resident of Camden City, dropped some things on the ground as they approached.

While speaking with Woods—who police note had pockets bulging with loose change and an iPhone that did not belong to him—they also found a GPS unit and a flashlight on the ground nearby.

Woods was arrested on the strength of that evidence as well as outstanding warrants from Magnolia ($187), Berlin Borough ($750), Berlin Township ($160), and Merchantville ($2,500).

Woods was charged with three counts of vehicle burglary, three counts of theft, and was remanded to the Camden County correctional facility on default of $13,597, full-cash bail.
