Every year the borough comes to life with the Collingswood Holiday Parade, a decades-old tradition that brings the music and spirit of the holiday season to thousands of downtown guests. The event, a mainstay of the community calendar, is supported, in large part, by charitable donations. You've got a chance to help by dropping 20 bucks at a fundraiser Sunday afternoon. From 1 to 4 p.m at Pinsetters Bar & Bowl (7111 Maple Avenue, Pennsauken), fans of the Collingswood Holiday Parade can take in the Eagles-Steelers game with unlimited bowling and shoe rental, a two-hour open buffet, cash bar and 50-50 raffle. Santa Claus is comin' to town, but not before Thanksgiving and the start of the Collingswood Cash holiday bonus.
1. Thanksgiving is this week—as if you needed reminding. Remember to start defrosting your gobblers by today, as big birds need at least three days in the refrigerator to properly defrost. And if you're getting an extra free or discounted turkey, consider donating it. Many food pantries are in dire need. Call first to confirm if your chosen food pantry accepts frozen turkeys. 2. This week kicks off Collingswood's holiday celebration extravaganza. It all starts Friday with the town tree lighting at 7 p.m. Santa drops down from the top of borough hall, thanks to an assist from the Collingswood Fire Department, to light the tree. The holiday season is back, and Collingswood will deliver its festive annual traditions once again.
Collingswood residents know their town has holiday spirit mastered, and the 2011 season will be no exception. The bells start ringing at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 25, during Collingswood's Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony. During, Santa Claus himself will descend from the roof of Collingswood Borough Hall, taking the journey rung by rung on Collingswood Fire Department's ladder truck, ho-ho-ing all the way. The ceremony will bring back traditional favorites, with seasonal tunes being sung by choral ensembles, over a quarter of a million dollars-worth of string lights, garlands, snow machines, and dancing elves. The borough's official evergreen tree will be lit, and the mayor and commissioners will offer season's greetings for all in attendance. …
