The garland's come down, and the summer dollars are months away. So what are borough businesses doing to drive traffic in the winter?
Look around your favorite Haddon Avenue shops these days, and you might be surprised at what’s in their inventories. It’s not that they’re carrying anything unusual. But they are carrying more and different items, sharing more products among themselves, and fitting out their displays with products from their neighbors. Like that mint green dress that perfectly matches the swing-arm lamp in the window of Dig This? Surprise, it’s from Frugal Resale (whose monthly ladies night is catered by neighbors at Casona and The Candy Jar). Picking up a bottle or two of olive oil at Blue Moon? You might also go home with a handmade dipping tray produced by local artist Eric Wolff. This kind of cross-promotion helps sustain the flow of business in the …

In Part I of this feature, Patch talked to two Collingswood businesses that are poised for growth; Part II focuses on a pair of shops that are trying to weather a dry spell.
October is a busy month in the borough, with at least four businesses sharing anniversaries. This is Part II of a feature that presents a seasonal snapshot of the local economy. To read Part I, click here. Philadelphia native Laurie Cohen, owner of The Candy Jar, came to Collingswood for the first time in 2002. Her son brought her out to May Fair, where she saw a “For Rent” sign in the window of a storefront on Haddon Avenue. Cohen, who had been making candy out of her home, took one look and recognized an opportunity. “It was a lark,” she said, “just getting the guts” to write a number down and call the landlord. As Collingswood wishes a happy birthday to four of its local (non-restaurant) businesses this month, Patch considers the successes and challenges that comprise their stories.

A handful of the best of the best in town were there to meet the voters who supported them in Readers' Choice 2012.
From the dulcet tones of Kevin Monko and Bill "the raging sensualist" Fergusson to the sweet treats of The Candy Jar, South Jersey's favorite farmers market played host to a sampling of Collingswood's favorite businesses Saturday morning. An overcast early morning was brightened up by a beautiful floral display from Warner Landscape and Patio and the smiles of children taking home free balloons from The Pop Shop. More than a few women stopped to chat up Morgan Robinson of Frugal Resale (and one couldn't resist the shoes she'd put out with the vintage autumn outfit displayed at her table). In all, the event was a small but meaningful capstone to the 2012 Readers Choice Awards. Here at Patch, we wanted to provide an event to help introduce …

Collingswood has a parking map here: http://www.collingswood.com/getting-here , but it doesn't have the kiosks on it With you on the hours though. I love Collingswood and know lots of folks there (including Reed) but I would find myself so often trying to go to a store and finding it closed that I kind of just gave up trying to shop downtown.   more ›
