When a Collingswood mom noticed a bunch of stuff in her teen's room that didn't belong, she notified the police, thwarting an unsecured vehicle break-in.
Vehicle Burglary, Theft from a Motor Vehicle On Dec. 28 at 12:30 p.m., an unsecured Dodge Caravan was broken into in the 400 block of Eldridge Ave. The burglary took place during the hours of a wrestling match at the Collingswood High School. Reported missing from the van was a Coach purse that contained $150 cash, three Target gift cards, two Amazon.com gift cards, and an Apple iPod. These items were recovered when the mother of a Collingswood juvenile found them in her child’s room, knew they didn’t belong there, and notified police. The juvenile was charged with vehicle burglary and theft from a motor vehicle, and will appear in juvenile court. Vehicle Burglary On Nov. 27, police were called to the 300 block of Conger Avenue, where unknown actors entered a Toyota that had been parked in the driveway. The glove box was ajar and several items were out of place. Four First Night Haddonfield buttons and a PATCO Hi-Speedline pass were reported missing; everything was valued at $70. There were no signs of forced entry and police have no suspects at the time. Even after allegedly giving back $47 worth of goods to a Rite Aid manager, a Collingswood woman was still locked up. Meanwhile, police are still searching for a male suspect who reportedly walked out the front door of Radio Shack with a display TV.
Shoplifting At 10 a.m. Nov. 26, police were called to investigate a shoplifting incident at the Rite Aid pharmacy on Haddon Avenue. The suspect was described as a female wearing a black jacket and blue pants. Collingswood Police encountered a woman who matched that description walking along Lakeview Drive. She identified herself as Dana Owens, 48, of Collingswood. Owens reported that prior to leaving the store, she had given about $47 worth of items back to the manager. She was detained on a shoplifting charge, and in the process, police discovered she was wanted for $350 in outstanding warrants. Owens was sent to the Camden County correctional facility in default of $500 full-cash bail for the alleged offense plus the warrants. …

Vehicle burglars continue to test car doors in the borough, netting an iPod, a laptop and electronic device chargers from a handful of unsecured vehicles over a three-week span.
Theft At 4:55 p.m. on Oct. 25, officers observed Lawrence Scharlach, 45, of Berlin, loitering behind the Dunkin' Donuts on Route 130. Upon investigation, Scharlach was discovered to be in possession of several aluminum tire rims that were taken from a residence on nearby Bellevue Terrace. He was charged with theft and was released pending a court date. Vehicle Burglary On Nov. 1, a resident from Bellevue Terrace reported that an iPod and a phone charger were missing from her Toyota wagon, which had been left unsecured overnight. West, 26, who was spotted walking...westward...on the tracks between the Collingswood and Ferry Ave. Stations.
