Here are a few picks for places to take Mom this weekend in Collingswood and Haddonfield.
For most people, food is a hallmark of any holiday. The act of gathering together around the table to share a meal makes special occasions all the more festive. In my family, we celebrate Easter with ham and babka. Christmas dinner always kicks off with our Italian escarole soup and ends with Pop-pop’s homemade apple pie. For my birthday, my mother makes my favorite simple comfort food: chicken cutlet with mashed potatoes and sweet corn. These little traditions provide a sense of ceremony and celebration in the most delicious way. As a new mom, I’m looking forward to starting a new tradition this Mother’s Day...and of course, it will involve food. While most holidays require a considerable amount of cooking, most often by the matriarch, …

Collingswood, you only have eyes for Casona.
If Sammy Hagar were coming to Collingswood for a mid-morning meal, he would book a table at Casona. Why's that, you ask? Because according to all four of you who voted in this week's Readers' Choice poll, there's only one place--there's only one place--for brunch. Nary an honorable mention among the other candidates presented here, folks. Were you asleep at the switch, or was the overwhelming power of the Casona Sunday-only brunch menu too vast to be conquered? "Our top seller on our brunch menu is probably the Arepa eggs Benedict, huevos rancheros, waffles tropical," said owner Mark Infantado. "The menu Chef Pedro Reyes has created here is unbelievable." Meanwhile, you can't get a table for Mom there for next Sunday because they're at 180…
Food columnist David Valiante sought out all of the restaurant options for Mother's Day around Collingswood and Haddonfield.
I know what you’re thinking. Mother’s Day is next Sunday, and you have no idea where you’re going to take Mom out to eat. Sure, you’ve got a nice card picked out, maybe a little gift, and you’re going to pick the flowers up sometime Saturday. But this restaurant ordeal has got you confounded. Mom may have told you that it’s OK to stay in and make something at home, but she’s lying. This is her day, and she wants you to spoil the living heck out of her. She just won’t say it. She doesn’t have to. You should know better. So what are you going to do? Take a deep breath, friend. Relax. It’s under control. I called around Collingswood and Haddonfield and organized a little cheat sheet for you to help you decide. There are a few brunch options…
