Parking Update: Kiosk Fixes, Free Sundays, New Permitting

The Borough government announced a number of changes to the current parking system that should take effect immediately.

Last week, the borough of Collingswood released the following announcement. KIOSK FIXES Collingswood is implementing some parking changes in 2013 that will improve parking issues, some of which stem from the switch from parking meters to kiosks in 2012. ”The company we contracted was the source of a lot of kiosk headaches. Like many towns in the region, we still think the upgrade to kiosks is the right way to go but we’re exploring new companies that will give visitors consistency and ease of use,” said Collingswood Mayor James Maley. “In the big picture, we’re aware of the frustrations folks have had and it’s a priority to get things running smoothly.” The kiosk company is installing new modems to try to correct the problems. "Like many towns in the region, we still think the upgrade to kiosks is the right way to go" If every other town was jumping off a bridge... and you have to love watching the hoighty-toighty lining up in the cold to use the parking machines, just plain funny. Changes in the Works for Collingswood Parking Kiosks

Dissatisfaction with the current parking vendor has the job out for bid.

You could take their British spellings. You were happy to have the option of paper tickets on the dashboards or punching in your license plate number. But darn it, Collingswood, you knew deep down that a parking kiosk that takes quarters out of the equation does you no good if it won't—or can't—accept a credit card. Convenience-based changes to the digital parking kiosks that were rolled out earlier this year probably took for granted that the machines have to function appropriately in order to offer them. Why pay to park in Collingswood when there are plenty of places to shop and dine elsewhere with free parking? Here's an idea, put up kiosks to charge for parking at the high school sporting events. Just think of the income that would produce!
