Photos: Beef, Beer, Bikes and Bowie

Were you at Saturday's glitzy benefit? Add your photos to our gallery!

Collingswood rockers packed the house at the Perkins Center for the Arts Satuday night to support an evening of glam-rock that benefited the Collingswood Bike Share. The event raised a tidy sum for the Bike Share and provided a one-of-a-kind evening of music in the borough. Here's just a handful of images of the pick-up band, Candy Volcano, led by musical director Kevin Monko. Bowie Benefit Blends Bands, Brings Back Glam

The event is the brainchild of Collingswood residents Joe Bonaparte and Kevin Monko, and features a cast of thousands.

Musician Kevin Monko was providing the entertainment, leading a handful of different singers through the changes on some David Bowie tunes. Call it timing or atmospherics, but the performance was uncannily affecting, Bonaparte recalls. “A good friend of mine who’d schooled me in all things glam rock, coincidentally, was on his deathbed at the time,” Bonaparte said. “After that, I thought we should have a party all-things-Bowie where we do the entire Ziggy Stardust album.” Bonaparte, who runs the Collingswood Bike Share, is an avowed music lover who often christens his refurbished two-wheelers with rock n’ roll names. Patch Readers' Choice Winners at the Farmers Market

A handful of the best of the best in town were there to meet the voters who supported them in Readers' Choice 2012.

From the dulcet tones of Kevin Monko and Bill "the raging sensualist" Fergusson to the sweet treats of The Candy Jar, South Jersey's favorite farmers market played host to a sampling of Collingswood's favorite businesses Saturday morning. An overcast early morning was brightened up by a beautiful floral display from Warner Landscape and Patio and the smiles of children taking home free balloons from The Pop Shop. More than a few women stopped to chat up Morgan Robinson of Frugal Resale (and one couldn't resist the shoes she'd put out with the vintage autumn outfit displayed at her table). In all, the event was a small but meaningful capstone to the 2012 Readers Choice Awards. Here at Patch, we wanted to provide an event to help introduce …

I Am Collingswood

I Am Collingswood: Kevin Monko

Collingswood Renaissance man Kevin Monko talks about art, music and the inspiration that comes from hard work.

Local polymath Kevin Monko is a professional photographer and accomplished musician whose band, MONKO, was recently nominated by the Patch Readers' Choice poll as one of the region's favorite musical acts. We sat down with Kevin this week to find out more about what drives his creativity, his advice for other artists, and the story behind the best photograph he ever took. Collingswood Patch: Do you have a philosophy of photography? Kevin Monko: Great question. No. I think everything I do is really trying to twist the world to my liking, to get some ownership of it. With art or my music or my songs, they tend to be unexpected. There's stuff about them that kind of skews things to somehow represent my reality. And humor too, I can't resist …
