The Collingswood High School girls basketball team saw its season come to a close Wednesday night in a 39-25 loss to No. 3 Cinnaminson in the NJSIAA South Jersey Group 3 quarterfinals. The Panthers were once again sound defensively, holding Cinnaminson in single digits in three of four quarters, but struggled to get into rhythm on offense. Collingswood was outscored 9-2 in the first quarter and never recovered. Ellie O’Neill, who scored her 1,000th point earlier this season, led all scorers with 11 points. Her sister’s Molly and Meghan scored six and five, respectively. Collingswood closes the season 18-10. REGION 7 DAY ONE: Three wrestlers moved into the second round of the Region 7 Tournament, while six Panthers came up short. …

Campbell plowed through the 160-pound weight class at the District 28 Wrestling Tournament.
Mike Campbell has wrestled in front of home fans dozens of times over his three years as a member of the Collingswood High School wrestling team. However, his performance at home on Saturday is one that will always hold a special meaning to him. Campbell scored a 10-0 major decision victory over Audubon’s Devin McMonagle to capture a District 28 Wrestling Tournament title. Campbell entered as the No. 1 seed in the 160-pound weight class and lived up to the billing. Campbell recorded a first-period pin over Kevin Stevens of Sterling in the quarterfinals, and followed with a second-period pin over Haddon Township’s Daniel Clemente in the semifinals. He faced little opposition in the finals, controlling his match against McMonagle. There was …

The team portion of the wrestling season saw great success for the Collingswood High School wrestling program. Now it is time for the individuals to shine. The NJSIAA released the District 28 Wrestling Tournament seeds, and a host of Panthers wrestlers find themselves in great position to advance to regions. Mike Campbell, Alex Irwin and John Deaner headline the list as No. 1 seeds in their respective weight classes. Campbell (30-5) is the favorite at the 160-pound weight class with Haddon Heights’ Julien Faison slated as the No. 2 seed. The two grapplers met in January with Campbell scoring a 5-2 decision. Irwin (21-5), the No. 1 seed at 138-pounds, has won six-of-seven matches entering the tournament. Deaner (27-6) is the top seed at 220…

Collingswood was eliminated from the wrestling playoffs by Paulsboro, 54-10.
The Collingswood High School wrestling team wanted to be at its best when it traveled to take on No. 1 Paulsboro on Thursday. Instead, it was the Red Raiders who were at peak performance. Paulsboro provided further evidence to why it is one of South Jersey’s premier programs, handling No. 4 Collingswood, 54-10, in the NJSIAA South Jersey Group 1 semifinals Wednesday night. The Red Raiders will look to add to their title haul when they face No. 2 Cinnaminson, on Saturday. Cinnaminson advanced to the championship with a 30-25 win over No. 6 Woodstown in the other Group 1 final. The Panthers (22-8) were hoping an upset would be in the cards after hanging in with Paulsboro two weeks ago, despite being shorthanded. Instead, the Red Raiders won …

Collingswood earned the 700th win in its program history Tuesday, inspired to a comeback victory by the rallying cry of "Do it for Dan" Trainer.
There are many individuals who played a part in the success of the Collingswood High School wrestling program over the last five decades. Coaches and wrestlers have come and gone, leaving an imprint in the program not soon to be forgotten. And then there was Dan Trainer. Trainer never coached at the high-school level, instead giving his time as a volunteer at the youth level. He helped turn hundreds of young children into quality wrestlers who reached high school at an advanced stage when it came to wrestling. Trainer passed away on Saturday at the age of 72. In his honor, this week Collingswood wrestlers wore T-shirts that read “Do it for Dan, the man who bled blue and gold.” The Panthers then came out and grabbed win No. 700 in program …

Collingswood junior John Deaner is succeeding two weight classes above his original slot.
Weighing in at around 180 pounds, Collingswood High School junior wrestler John Deaner is the quite the wrestler in the the 182-pound weight class. As it turns out, he’s not too bad wrestling at 200 either. Wrestling two weight classes up at the Collingswood Duals this weekend, Deaner went 3-0, recording 4-1 and 5-0 decisions as well as a second-period pin. His efforts helped the injury-ridden Panthers place second in the tournament. “He had a really good day,” Collingswood coach Dechlin Moody said. “He stepped up big for us.” Because the Panthers have been hit so hard by injuries this season—five starters are currently out of the lineup—Deaner has spent little time in his natural weight class. The junior has wrestled at 182 just twice, …

Collingswood figures to be one of the top wrestling teams in the Colonial Conference this season.
Led by a talented group of middleweights, the Collingswood High School wrestling team is ready to win now. Thanks to a thriving youth program, the Panthers are also set up for long-term success. The combination of the two has head coach Declan Moody pumped up about entering the winter wrestling season. “We are excited,” Moody said. “We should have a good year if we stay healthy. We have a lot of depth, so even if guys do get banged up we have other guys that can step in. It has been nice having these guys battling for positions.” Moody spoke in front of a packed wrestling room—something that has become the norm thanks to a feeder program that has grown substantially in recent years. Moody expects to have around 40 wrestlers to work with …
