Jam-Packed Second Saturday Tonight in Collingswood

Live music at The Factory, buy-one-get-one greeting cards at For Heavens Sake, gallery openings, a story slam and more—all in the borough tonight.

If the weather hasn't gotten you too down, and you're all stocked up on bread and milk, then there's a big evening of events in store for you in the borough. It starts a 4 p.m. at For Heaven's Sake, where an imminent store closing has inventory at 50 to 80 percent off and seasonal cards (Valentine's Day, Easter, Lent) at buy one get one free. Cookies and refreshments will be served. Then, at 6 p.m., head up the avenue to Kenkojuku Karate for an open house celebrating their 10-year anniversary. Learn about the dojo while you enjoy light refreshments and chat with sensei Andrew Faupel. Hard Goodbyes at 'For Heaven's Sake'

Nancy and Stephen Marino invested six years of their lives and all of her retirement savings into the faith-based shop. Now that it's closing, they don't know what's next.

When Nancy Marino opened For Heaven’s Sake in downtown Collingswood back in April 2007, she thought she’d picked a winner. Now, as she prepares to shut the doors of her shop nearly six years later—two of which she spent battling cancer—Marino’s not even sure she’ll be able to keep her home in the borough if she can’t find another gig. “Had I been healthy enough, I may have closed earlier,” she said. “During the holidays, I’m working totally on adrenaline.” The shop took every penny of her retirement money to open, stock and maintain. She never took a salary, never turned a profit. Since I'm a heathen, so to speak, you'd probably think I would not miss the closing of "For Heaven's Sake." Not so. It is/was a lovely store and on several occasions I purchased religious items to give to Catholic friends, e.g., when my friend Kay suddenly lost her husband. So sorry "For Heavens Sake" is closing and wishing its owners, Nancy and Steve, the very best for their future.   more ›
