The curriculum for Collingswood public schools will be rewritten in several areas prior to the 2013-14 school year to “increase [its] rigor,” Chief Academic Officer Mark Wiltsey told the public at the April meeting of the borough board of education. Districtwide, social studies and foreign languages at every level will be overhauled to align with the New Jersey Common Core curriculum standards, as will middle school and high school math and elementary school writing programs. “We want to have a literacy flair to it,” Wiltsey said. Alex Irwin and Mike Campbell move to the semifinals, while another two Collingswood wrestlers exit in the quarterfinals.
Two Collingswood wrestlers survived the quarterfinal round at the Region 7 tournament Saturday, keeping them in the race for a title. Alex Irwin defeated Justin Miller of Allentown by a 3-2 decision in the 145-pound weight class. Mike Campbell won a 6-4 decision over Devin McMonag of Audubon in the 160-pound class, NJ.com reports. The two will continue to compete at regions on Saturday. Two other Panthers wrestlers bowed out Friday with losses in their matches. John Deaner (220 pounds) and Ali Ayaz (152 pounds) were both pinned by their opponents. Semifinals begin Saturday morning, and the finals at 5 p.m. The top three wrestlers in each weight class go on to states in Atlantic City.

The Collingswood girls basketball team bowed out of the playoffs, while a trio of wrestlers found success in the opening round of regions.
The Collingswood High School girls basketball team saw its season come to a close Wednesday night in a 39-25 loss to No. 3 Cinnaminson in the NJSIAA South Jersey Group 3 quarterfinals. The Panthers were once again sound defensively, holding Cinnaminson in single digits in three of four quarters, but struggled to get into rhythm on offense. Collingswood was outscored 9-2 in the first quarter and never recovered. Ellie O’Neill, who scored her 1,000th point earlier this season, led all scorers with 11 points. Her sister’s Molly and Meghan scored six and five, respectively. Collingswood closes the season 18-10. Collingswood's 10 wrestlers headed to the Region 7 tournament this week got their first look at first-round opponents. The Trentonian published the full seedings for the Region 7 tournament. Several Collingswood wrestlers came out on the better side of the seeding versus their first opponent. Mike Campbell, who won a District 28 title this weekend, received a first-round bye. Mike Campbell has wrestled in front of home fans dozens of times over his three years as a member of the Collingswood High School wrestling team. However, his performance at home on Saturday is one that will always hold a special meaning to him. Campbell scored a 10-0 major decision victory over Audubon’s Devin McMonagle to capture a District 28 Wrestling Tournament title. Campbell entered as the No. 1 seed in the 160-pound weight class and lived up to the billing. Campbell recorded a first-period pin over Kevin Stevens of Sterling in the quarterfinals, and followed with a second-period pin over Haddon Township’s Daniel Clemente in the semifinals. The team portion of the wrestling season saw great success for the Collingswood High School wrestling program. Now it is time for the individuals to shine. The NJSIAA released the District 28 Wrestling Tournament seeds, and a host of Panthers wrestlers find themselves in great position to advance to regions. Mike Campbell, Alex Irwin and John Deaner headline the list as No. 1 seeds in their respective weight classes. Collingswood was eliminated from the wrestling playoffs by Paulsboro, 54-10.
The Collingswood High School wrestling team wanted to be at its best when it traveled to take on No. 1 Paulsboro on Thursday. Instead, it was the Red Raiders who were at peak performance. Paulsboro provided further evidence to why it is one of South Jersey’s premier programs, handling No. 4 Collingswood, 54-10, in the NJSIAA South Jersey Group 1 semifinals Wednesday night. The Red Raiders will look to add to their title haul when they face No. 2 Cinnaminson, on Saturday. The Collingswood High School wrestling team knows exactly what it is up against tonight. The wrestlers know they are being given little chance of upsetting one of South Jersey’s true wrestling powerhouses. The Panthers will host the Buena Chiefs in the first round of the Group 1 playoffs on Monday, Feb. 11.
The Collingswood High School wrestling team is staying home for the first round of the playoffs. The Panthers earned the final home seed of the NJSIAA South Jersey Group 1 playoffs, and will take on the No. 5-ranked Buena Chiefs at CHS on Monday, Feb. 11. Collingswood (21-6) has lost 4 of its last 6, but against top-notch competition, which has prepared the team well for the playoffs. Prior to the slide, the Panthers had rattled off 13 straight match victories. Paulsboro earned the No. 1 seed, while Cinaminson is the No. 2 seed. Both teams earned byes. Haddon Township takes on Woodstown in the other quarterfinal. If the Panthers are able to defeat the Chiefs, they will travel to take on a Paulsboro team to which they fell 42-21 on Monday. …
