Five Things for This Week: 8/27/12 - 9/1/12

Your weekly calendar of events includes a pair of important borough meetings Monday night and a pair of great movies.

Most of the action this week happens early on this week, with the Planning Board and School Board meetings running head-to-head Monday night after a blood drive. The week rounds out with a pair of great movies, one for grown-ups and one for kids. 1. Blood Drive Mon., Aug. 27: 2-7 p.m., St. John's Church Pre-register online or call the parish office at 856-858-0298 to schedule your donation. Bring ID and drink plenty of fluids beforehand. With Blood Supply at Emergency Levels, Red Cross Calls for Donors

People of blood types O-, B-, and A- are especially needed to donate.

With a shortfall of 50,000 donations so far in June, blood shortages have reached emergency levels, and American Red Cross officials are calling for all eligible donors to give as soon as possible. As compared with year-ago levels, the organization has half the readily available blood products on hand that it expects to need. Donors with O positive, O negative, B negative and A negative blood types are especially needed. “Blood must be available at a moment's notice when seconds count to help save or sustain a life,” said Donna M. Give Blood Saturday, Become a Lifesaver For Two Local Boys

This year, Oaklyn's Blood Drive will honor Vincenzo Angelucci and Tyler Quinter.

It doesn't take much to be someone's lifesaver.  And Saturday is the opportunity to be 7-year-old Tyler Quinter and 5-year-old Vincenzo Angelucci's personal lifesaver—it's as simple as donating one pint of blood. Oaklyn's Fifth Annual Blood Drive will run from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. this Saturday, Jan. 29, at Oaklyn Public School—located at 136 Kendall Blvd. Sponsored by the Oaklyn Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), the blood drive is run in correlation with the American Red Cross. Since day one, the drive has been held in Vincenzo Angelucci's name—after the now-5-year-old was diagnosed with A.L.L. Leukemia at the age of 2.
