Went in for breakfast the other day with my wife. Ordered pancakes....A few minutes later the waitress brought a place with butter and something called "breakfast syrup." I had never seen this kind of syrup before and read the ingredients on the package. Corn syrup, coloring, salt, some other things but nothing that resembles syrup people eat with pancakes.
A few minutes later my pancakes arrived. I asked the waitress for maple syrup and she told me there is an extra $1.50 charge for real syrup. She indicated that as a matter of routine the Westmont "nickles and dimes" customers. As a matter of principle I declined the maple syrup and started to eat the pancakes. They were unfit for human consumption. They were dry, rubbery, with a sawdust like texture. In short not fit for consumption.
While I expect to have a bad meal every now and then, that combined with being told that real syrup with pancakes has to cost an additional $1.50 is a bit much. What a rip off and more so when the food itself is not edible in the first place.
There are plenty or restaurants and diners in the area that charge the same as the Westmont but do not rip people off for things like syrup with pancakes. It's a good thing I did not order something that required salt or pepper and I shudder to think how much more those might add to the check. Let's see....$1.50 for salt, and $1.50 for pepper... A $7 order of eggs all of a sudden becomes $10. Save your hard earned money and eat someplace else.
