Second Saturday, Story Hour, Civil War Storytelling

Plus: back-to-school nights for elementary school parents, the Collingswood Farmers Market, and story hour at the library.

Be extra-careful when driving in Collingswood on Monday, September 9; there will be more children on the streets today because Collingswood Public Schools are closed for a teacher inservice.

On Tuesday, September 10, it's back-to-school night for parents of Garfield Elementary School students. The fun starts at 6:30 p.m.

On Wednesday, September 11, teach your pooch how to clean up his (or her) act with some obedience training at ExtraordinaryED. Susan Bove of Grey Wolf Dog Training leads a three-week course in doggie psychology and training

Then at 6:30 p.m., it's Back to School night for parents of Zane North Elementary School students.

Finally, from 5 to 8 p.m., you can support the Collingswood High School boys soccer team when you print this flyer and bring it with you to dine at the Audubon Crossings Chick-fil-A.

On Thursday, September 12, take your little one to the Collingswood Public Library for three-, four-, and five-year-old story hour. Children enjoy stories, songs, finger plays, crafts, snack, and a play period. Adults get to have coffee. Call Carol or Dot at 856.858.0649 to register.

Then at 6:30 p.m., it's Back to School night for parents of Mark Newbie Elementary School students.

On Friday, September 13, 18-35-month-olds can visit the library for simple stories, finger plays, songs, and playtime. Registration is limited to 12 children; call Dot or Carol at 856.858.0649.

Then, on Friday night, Cherry Hill singer-songwriter Liz de Lise visits Grooveground for Fridays Live. Enjoy her "punchy, thoughtful lyrics and unique guitar styling" from 8:30 p.m. on.

Saturday, September 14 brings with it the area's most popular weekend farmers market on Atlantic Avenue, from Collings to Irvin Aves. (8 a.m. to 12 noon).

Then from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Collingswood Shakespeare Company is hosting auditions for Molière’s The Imaginary Invalid, which will be performed in November. Call Mariann at 856-858-0576 or email Francie at francieonavon@gmail.com for audition information.

That leaves you just enough time to make it over to the Collings-Knight House for the 2 p.m. historical programs commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Civil War.

"Susan Christides will speak about the US Sanitary Commission and Great Central Fair in Philadelphia, and the roles adopted by women during the war. There will be period clothing, fascinating facts and refreshments. The program is free and open to history lovers of all ages."

But make sure you leave lots of room for entertainment on Saturday night, when the borough celebrates Second Saturday in Collingswood.

Live music, artists and performers will be found in just about every other doorway on Haddon Avenue, including at Grooveground, where the work of Trenton-based Ray Buzzelli will hang
