Collingswood Calendar: Election Day, Park Cleanup, Thursday Jazz

This week's activities also include a Zumbathon, a Holistic Moms meeting, and a Victorian funeral recreation at Knight Park.

On Monday, November 4, the Collingswood borough commissioners will hold their monthly meeting at the Collingswood Community Center at 7 p.m. Stop by and see your local government in action.

Then, on Tuesday, November 5, it's Election Day. Get out and cast your ballot from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Not sure where to vote? Click here to find your polling place.

After you've voted, dine out at the Tortilla Press Cantina in Pennsauken, and support the 2013 Collingswood Holiday Parade from 4 p.m. to closing.

On Thursday, November 7, bring your three-, four-, and five-year-olds to the Collingswood Public Library for story hour. Children enjoy songs, finger plays, snacks, and a take-home craft. There's even coffee for grown-ups. Register for the program at 856-858-0649.

It's also the First Thursday jazz concert series at the Collingswood Community Center. For $10 ($5 for students), hear vocalist Miss Justine. B.Y.O.B. and free soft drinks! Call 856-858-8914 or visit jazzbridge.org for more info.

On Friday, November 8, come back to the library at 10 a.m. for a story hour for 18- to 35-month-old children. The program is limited to 14 children, and includes "simple stories, finger plays, songs, and play time." Call Carol or Dot at 856-858-0649 to register.

Then, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the library, the Holistic Moms Network holds its monthly meeting. Guest Speaker Gretchen Alfonso of the Moms Clean Air Force will speak on "the region’s air quality, its impact on our local children, and how parents can become active and engaged citizens" on the issue.

On Saturday, November 9the Collingswood Manor Ladies Auxiliary hosts its Attic Treasure and Bake Sale. "Jewelry, linens, china, holiday items...hot dogs and chili and, of course, fabulous homemade baked goods" are available for purchase. All proceeds go to the Manor Fellowship Fund.

Saturday is also a Knight Park cleanup day. Help turn soil and add compost, plant shrubs and eastern redbud trees, rake leaves, and sweep the pavilion. Volunteers aged 12 and up are welcome. RSVP to Commissioner Joan Leonard at jleonard@collingswood.com.

Then, at 2 p.m., the Collings-Knight House will recreate an 1860's-era parlor viewing. "

Sunday, November 10, is the Workout for Wildlife benefit. For $15 ($20 at the door), join the charity Zumbathon at the Universal Ballroom Dance Center (41 E. Crescent Blvd., Collingswood) and support the Freedom Center for Wildlife with an exercise and dance party.
