Collingswood Calendar: Comics Class, Factory Throws 'On' Switch, Wild Game Night

Plus: a meeting of GMO-Free NJ, children's story hours, and a lunch n' learn at the Collingswood Manor.

Then, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., the Collingswood school district will host a PTA-sponsored skating party for its elementary school students at the Cherry Hill Skating Center.

Wednesday, January 15 features the grand opening of The Factory maker space (13 Fern Avenue). The 16,000-square-foot facility will finally throw the "on" switch on its equipment, which includes pottery wheels, kilns, woodworking and metalworking gear, silkscreen press, sewing machines, a recording studio, and more. 

The event runs from 6 to 9 p.m., and will feature equipment demonstrations and giveaways for those who sign membership contracts. Stop by and check it out.

Thursday, January 16 offers a handful of events. 

First, at 10 a.m., three-, four-, and five-year-olds can enjoy story time at the Collingswood Public Library. Children will read stories, sing songs, enjoy finger plays, snack, and a play period, and will take home a theme-related craft. Grown-ups get coffee. Register with Carol or Dot at 858-0649.

There's also a lunch n' learn at the Collingswood Manor led by marketing director Barbara Wrzeszcz. Tour the facility at 10 a.m. and eat a lunch prepared by the executive chef at the facility. Call 856-854-4331 to RSVP.

Then, starting at 4:30 p.m., Chef Nunzio Patruno is serving a four-course, B.Y.O.B. wild game feast at Nunzio's Ristorante Rustico. For $55 per person, guests will enjoy a special feast that includes venison, pheasant, and wild boar. Click here for reservations or call 856-858-9840

Finally, at 6:30 p.m., GMO-FREE NJ meets in the Collingswood library to discuss how to eat organic, non-genetically modified foods while sticking to a budget. A door prize will be awarded as well. The event is free and open to the public. RSVP to GMOfreeNJ@gmail.com. 

At 10 a.m. on Friday, January 17, the Collingswood Public Library will host a story hour for 18-35-month-old children. This program is limited to 14 children and includes simple stories, finger plays, songs, and playtime. Call Carol or Dot at 856-858-0649 to register.

Collingswood schools will dismiss early on Friday as well in advance of closing on the Martin Luther King Day holiday on Monday, January 20.
