Back to School, Pop-Up Gala: Week Ahead in Collingswood

Plus: the monthly meeting of the Collingswood borough commissioners and Bob Kelley at Grooveground on Friday.

In observance of the Labor Day holiday, the Collingswood Borough Commissioners meeting regularly scheduled for the first Monday of the month has been moved back a day to Tuesday, September 3.

As always, the meetings are held on the second floor of the Collingswood Senior Community Center. Start time is 7 p.m. Bring your questions, concerns and constructive criticisms for borough leadership.

Tuesday is also your monthly opportunity to contribute to the Collingswood holiday parade while supporting local businesses.

Eat at Benny's Burger Joint (712 Haddon Ave.) between 4 p.m. and closing, and the restaurant will donate 15 percent of your bill to the parade fund when you mention the "Collingswood Holiday Parade."

Wednesday, September 4 is the first day that parents start to breathe a sigh of relief, as kids attending Collingswood Public Schools head back to class.

(Don't breathe too deeply, though, mom and dad—it's just half-days for the first week.) The 2013-14 district academic calendar is available here.

Friday, September 6, brings with it a chance to see musician Bob Kelley perform at Grooveground. A singer, guitarist and songwriter, Kelley plays "blues, vintage jazz, pop/rock, and ballads," and his set kicks off at 8:30 p.m.

Then, on Saturday, September 7, it's the Collingswood Pop-Up Gala. From 6:30 p.m. to midnight, friends and neighbors will throw an impromptu dinner party spectacle at an undisclosed location.

Tickets are still available all week at Main Street Realty, and check out the deals from local businesses in the gear-up to the event.
