Camden County: Don't Call 911 for Fireworks Info

Camden County emergency lines get flooded every year with non-emergency calls, and officials want callers to stop.

Calling 911 to get help after a fireworks accident? Good idea.

Calling 911 to ask a dispatcher where you can go watch fireworks? Terrible idea.

Unthinkable as it might seem, the latter really is an annual problem, Camden County officials said ahead of the Fourth of July holiday.

County dispatchers and local police departments regularly get flooded with emergency calls around the Fourth of July from residents asking about parade and fireworks times and locations, officials said.

“The emergency communication system should never be used for non-emergency information,” they said in a tersely worded statement Monday calling on residents to break the habit.

The county will celebrate with a waterfront concert and fireworks show Saturday evening at Wiggins Waterfront Park, featuring The Beat Tells, a Beatles tribute band.

The show starts at 6 p.m., with fireworks to follow.

Celebrations elsewhere across the county can be found in Patch’s guide to South Jersey fireworks.
