Bob Dylan, Wilco, Fireworks Headline Summer Events in Camden County

There's plenty for everyone this summer in Camden County, with a full slate of concerts, fireworks, runs and regattas planned.

Are you ready to rock this summer, Camden County? Whether you’re into Bob Dylan, the Lumineers or Beatles nostalgia, there’s a concert for you in the next few months.

The freeholder board has released the 2013 Events Guide, which includes a list of concerts, festivals and events through the summer and fall. The events and programs will take place through the Camden County parks system and residents of all ages are encouraged to join.

“We’ve planned a wide variety of programs and activities for people of all ages,” said Freeholder Ed McDonnell. “Whatever your interest—music, movies, sports or family entertainment—there’s something for everyone in the Camden County’s parks.”

Events include free “twilight concerts” in Cooper River Park. The Fralinger string band kicked off the concerts on Thursday, and upcoming acts include Beatlemania Now, the Duprees, Opera in the Park and the Sunset Jazz Series in Wiggins Waterfront Park along the Delaware River.

Summer and fall events in other parts of the county include Peter Yarrow at Haddon Lake Park’s Sundown Music Series, the One Man Circus in Lindenwold Park and the Starlight Movie Series featuring The Lorax.

One of the biggest highlights of the summer series will be the Exponential Music Festival, presented by WXPN at the Wiggins Waterfront Park and the Susquehanna Bank Center. The festival, July 26-28, include acts such as Bob Dylan, Wilco and Lumineers and My Morning Jacket.

Fireworks, running and rowing

If you and your family are looking for some outdoor entertainment and the largest firework display in the region this Fourth of July, head to the Camden waterfront. Keeping with tradition this Independence Day, the Camden waterfront and Penn’s Landing will be partnering up to put on a massive fireworks display over the Delaware.

“This incredible display of offerings for the residents of Camden County is one of the main reasons we have more than 3 million people a year come down to the Camden waterfront,” McDonnell said. “The programming and events are carefully thought out so we are reaching all segments of the population and enhancing the quality of life for all of our residents.”

The Events Guide has something for the runners and rowers in the region, too. The schedule includes multiple regattas along Cooper River through the summer and into November as well as the “No Frills, Just Thrills” race series.

Cooper River also will host the Catch the Cooper Regatta on June 22, the U.S. Rowing Club Nationals on July 9-14, the Frostbite Regatta on Nov. 9 and the Braxton Regatta on November 10.

Do not worry runners, you have not been forgotten. Courtesy of the South Jersey Athletic Club, many runs are featured on the schedule for this summer including 10K (6.2 miles) 1 Loop on June 25 at 7 p.m., 1 Mile Run & 1 or 2 Loops on July 9 at 6:30 p.m., 1 Loop Prediction Race on July 23 at 6:30 p.m., Staggered Start Race on August 6 at 7 p.m. and 1, 2 or 3 Loops on August 20 at 6:30 pm.

“My colleagues on the Freeholder Board and I know how much residents enjoy the outdoors, which is why we continue to enhance our 2,200 acres of parkland,” said McDonnell. “We know how important it is for you and your family’s quality of life to have open space and playgrounds to use this summer and how important it is to foster a sense of community in these special areas.”
