Who's the Best Teacher in Collingswood?

It's National Teacher Appreciation Week. Tell us about the most inspirational educator in your life.

“Every day I am asked what the secret is to ensuring every child in New Jersey graduates from high school ready for college and career, and I always have one simple response: outstanding teachers.”

—NJ Acting Commissioner of Education Christopher Cerf

In a video address made available Monday on the New Jersey Department of Education website, Cerf discussed how his roots as a history teacher shaped his understanding of the impact that educators can have on the next generation of Americans.

"We as a state should make sure that we celebrate outstanding educators every day for their work with our children and for developing the next generation of leaders,” he said.

The New Jersey Department of Education is collecting stories of its outstanding teachers through two new programs: Teacher Memory and Teacher Spotlight. Submit your nominees today!

(Of course, these initiatives were rolled out only slightly in advance of remarks by Governor Chris Christie's promise of tenure reform as a cornerstone of a balanced state ledger—but we digress.)

More words of praise for Mr. B. at Tatem! My kids love music class now because he engages them with things that they like to learn about... and presents it in a fun and interesting way. My kids have never come home from school talking about their MUSIC class until this year! We're blessed to have him.

Thomas Sharp School - Kindergarten Teacher - Mrs. Phillips is the best teacher ever!!! I have 3 boys and they all have had her. She has my youngest this year and she taught my oldest, who will be in High School next year. She has amazing patients. She truely cares about your child's development in every way, not just educational but social and emotional too. I am thankful that my children all have had the priviledge of being her student!!!
