“Every day I am asked what the secret is to ensuring every child in New Jersey graduates from high school ready for college and career, and I always have one simple response: outstanding teachers.”
—NJ Acting Commissioner of Education Christopher Cerf
In a video address made available Monday on the New Jersey Department of Education website, Cerf discussed how his roots as a history teacher shaped his understanding of the impact that educators can have on the next generation of Americans.
"We as a state should make sure that we celebrate outstanding educators every day for their work with our children and for developing the next generation of leaders,” he said.
The New Jersey Department of Education is collecting stories of its outstanding teachers through two new programs: Teacher Memory and Teacher Spotlight. Submit your nominees today!
(Of course, these initiatives were rolled out only slightly in advance of remarks by Governor Chris Christie's promise of tenure reform as a cornerstone of a balanced state ledger—but we digress.)
