Panthers No Match for Red Raiders

Collingswood was eliminated from the wrestling playoffs by Paulsboro, 54-10.

The Collingswood High School wrestling team wanted to be at its best when it traveled to take on No. 1 Paulsboro on Thursday.

Instead, it was the Red Raiders who were at peak performance.

Paulsboro provided further evidence to why it is one of South Jersey’s premier programs, handling No. 4 Collingswood, 54-10, in the NJSIAA South Jersey Group 1 semifinals Wednesday night.

The Panthers (22-8) were hoping an upset would be in the cards after hanging in with Paulsboro two weeks ago, despite being shorthanded. Instead, the Red Raiders won 12-of-14 matches to cruise to the victory. Mike Campbell recorded a 22-8 major decision at 170 and John Deaner scored a pin in one minute, seven seconds at 225 to provide Collingswood’s only points.

The Panthers will return to the practice room for the next week and get back to work preparing for the individual portion of the season. The team has several wrestlers who should find their way past districts and into regions.
