Boys' Soccer Enters Tournament at No. 12

Collingswood will face No. 5 Deptford in the first round of the Group 2 playoffs.

Midway through the season, the players on the Collingswood High School boys’ soccer team talked about the desire to play solid soccer over the next few weeks, not only to qualify for the NJSIAA South Jersey Group 2 playoffs, but do so without being one of the bottom few seeds.

The Panthers may not have racked up as many wins as they would have liked, but they got their wish anyway.

Collingswood (4-12-1) earned a No. 12 seed in the Group 2 playoffs and will travel to No. 5 Deptford in the first round, Monday.

The Panthers will look to draw the inspiration for an upset from two of their better performances this month: a 1-1 tie with No. 9 West Deptford and a 5-0 victory over Paulsboro. Deptford is 12-4-1, playing out of the Tri-County Conference.

Despite the discrepancy in record and seeding, the game could be a close one; Deptford has scored more than two goals in just six of 17 games.
