Collingswood Wrestler Wins Regional Championship
Moving up a weight class this season appears to be paying off for Collingswood grappler Tony Giancola.
Collingswood High School's Tony Giancola won his championship match at the Region 7 wrestling tournament Saturday, sending him to the state tournament next weekend in Atlantic City.
Senior Giancola beat Cherokee's Alex Baider in the 113-pound match, 11-1 in a major decision at Robbinsville High School.
Giancola had success last year in the 103-pound weight class, and found he needed to adjust his approach this season.

“You can’t really wrestle the same in different weight classes,” Giancola . “Last year when I moved down, I was bigger than most kids. If I got into a jam, I could kind of muscle my way out of it. This year at 113, I had to wrestle my way out. I had to adjust my mindset.
“But I want to win the whole thing again. That’s the goal,” he said.
