Collingswood's Giancola Wins Quarterfinal Wrestling Match

One Panthers wrestler won in the quarterfinals, while three teammates fell to opponents in the Region 7 tournament.

Update, 10:30 a.m., Feb. 25: Tony Giancola won his semifinal match over Shawnee's Jim Moody by a major decision, 15-0. Giancola will compete in the championship round, starting Saturday at 5 p.m.


One Collingswood wrestler made it out of the Region 7 wrestling tournament quarterfinals Friday.

Tony Giancola pinned Maple Shade’s Justin Jericho in the 113-pound match during the quarterfinals, held at Robbinsville High School.

Three teammates weren’t as fortunate, however. Daniel Penissi (132 pounds), Alex Irwin (138 pounds) and Mike Campbell (160 pounds) all lost their bouts.

Tournament action continues Saturday with the semifinal wrestlebacks, third-place consolations, semifinals and finals.

Quarterfinal results for Collingswood were:

113 lbs: Tony Giancola (Collingswood) defeated Justin Jericho (Maple Shade). Pin, 3:47

132 lbs: Aaron Lambert (Burlington Township) defeated Daniel Penissi (Collingswood). Technical fall, 15-0 at 4:31

138 lbs: Tim Mahaney (Moorestown) defeated Alex Irwin (Collingswood). Decision, 9-4

160 lbs: Brad Schwarze (New Egypt) defeated Mike Campbell (Collingswood). Decision, 8-0
