Out and Proud: March Happenings for the GLBTQ Community

What to do? What to do? Gay men singing. Drag queens dancing. Social outings. And lots more. A sneak peek at March events of interest to the queer community.

Looking for things to do in March? Here are some events happening in both southern New Jersey and Philly that might be of interest to the GLBTQ community. Friday, March 1 to Sunday March 3 - The hit Broadway musical “Priscilla Queen of the Desert” comes to Philly’s Academy of Music. Various times. Purchase tickets at http://www.kimmelcenter.org/. (Academy of Music, Broad and Locust Streets, Philadelphia, PA)

Tuesday, March 5 - Yoga for Men - Popular with gay men. All levels of yoga experience are welcome. Bring a mat, towel, and water. Starts at 7:00 p.m. Pre-registration recommended. (William Way Center, 1315 Spruce Street, Philadelphia PA)

Monday, March 11 - Night Out at The Treehouse - Monthly social outing for the GLBTQ community and it allies runs from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. (The Treehouse Coffee Shop, 120 West Merchant Street, Audubon, NJ)

Wednesday, March 13 - CollingsWoof - Monthly social group for members and friends of the bear community. Starts at 7:00 p.m. (GrooveGround, 647 Haddon Avenue, Collingswood, NJ)

Thursday, March 14, Friday, March 15, and Saturday, March 16 - Miss Richfield 1981 - Hailing from Richfield, Minnesota, where “butter is a spice and gravy is a beverage,” the one and only Miss Richfield 1981 returns to Philly with her latest show, “Sweet and Sour Richfield: Made in China.” Be forewarned: audience interaction, sing-alongs, and lots of fun will be on tap. Sunday, March 17 - Marriage Equality and the Supreme Court - Lisa Hardaway of Lambda Legal will lead a discussion of two Supreme Court cases dealing with marriage equality. Rabbi Richard Address will discuss LGBT inclusion in the Jewish faith. Breakfast will be served. Free. Thursday, March 21 - Third Thursday @ Treno - Monthly social get-together for the queer community. 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. (Treno Pizza Bar, 233 Haddon Avenue, Westmont, NJ)

Thursday, March 21 to Saturday, March 23 - Philadelphia Gay Men’s Chorus: Big Broadway Sing - Sing along as the Chorus tackles songs from “Wicked,” “Rent,” “Hairspray,” and more. Hosting the concert? The world’s only drag magician Cashetta (who hails from Jersey). 8:00 p.m. each night. Learn more and order tix at www.pgmc.org. Monday, March 25 - PFLAG Collingswood - Christian Jordal, a family therapist specializing in LGBT clients, will lead a discussion about the benefits of open dialogue in families. (Collingswood Library, 771 Haddon Avenue, Collingswood, NJ)
