A woman who was denied a custom license plate that would've read "8theist" is suing the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC), The Courier Post reports.

Shannon Morgan, of Maurice River in Cumberland County, claims her first amendment rights were violated when the MVC denied her request for a custom license plate that reads "8theist." The lawsuit was filed on Thursday, according to the report.

She then filled out an application for a license plate that would've read "BAPTIST" and it was accepted, according to the report. Her complaints to the agency went unanswered.

Previously, the MVC had denied a man's request for a custom license plate that would've read "ATHE1ST," but that denial was overturned, according to the report.

I assume everyone who opposes this woman would also feel the same is she wanted a "Jesus" plate. It's not the governments job to decide which religious belief or non belief one adheres to. The argument about plates with offensive language is in a completely different league, and both cases you cite could be viewed as a an outward threat as well a personal belief. This is about a belief alone, her atheism doesn't pose a threat anymore than a Catholic plate poses a threat to a Jew. If you allow a religious plate at all, then this one needs to be permitted as well.

Just another pathetic loser looking for her 15 minutes of fame....reminds me of the recent one who attempted to sue her parents for enforcing restrictions on her behavior....so tired of it all!

If this poor woman wants to advertise her atheism on her license plate - just let her. That's her right in this country. But won't she be surprised when she dies ?

Atheism is just the next in a long line of belief structures that eventually become classified as religions. Don't you dare challenge what the Atheists believe to be true lest you be castigated out of the clique. The irony is palpable.
