Report: Rob Andrews' Spending Under Investigation

A House ethics panel is investigating whether the congressman from South Jersey improperly used campaign funds for personal business.

Longtime U.S. Rep. Rob Andrews is under investigation by a House ethics panel for his use of campaign funds, the Huffington Post reports.

Andrews, a Democrat, reportedly spent $97,000 on at least 18 trips to California from 2007 to 2011. Some of the trips coincided with his daughter Josie's recording sessions in California.

Josie Andrews is an aspiring singer and actress.

Rob Andrews, a Haddon Heights resident, was first elected to Congress in 1990. He represents New Jersey's 1st Congressional District, which comprises parts of Burlington, Camden and Gloucester counties.

Andrews said in a statement that the ethics committee will clear him of accusations that he called "politically motivated" and "totally and categorically false," according to the Huffington Post.

Enough with the smoke and mirrors Mr. Andrews, did you or didn't you? You know, spend your campaign funds inappropriately? The people want to know.
Michael July 30, 2012 at 11:11 PM
I'm sure he misused funds, but I'm also betting that it is politically motivated. I would lay money that the Norcross machine is looking to get rid of the last politician in the area that isn't beholden to him.

all this time I thought robby was a politician sent from heaven.

Rob Andrews and Obama lining their own pockets while we have 9% unemployment and a national debt up over five trillion since 1/1/09. Did anyone see the $7,000 coat Michele O wore to Olympics. Obscene and out of touch.
Ric July 31, 2012 at 01:44 AM
Makes me nostalgic for the Bush/Cheney years and how they fattened all their buddies. Of course they put us into trillions of debt but it was great for Halliburton. Oh, the good old days.....

Classic denial technique. I agree Bush did it too and he's gone and I'm glad. That brings us back to today and Obama and Robbie have their hands in the cookie jar now and they got caught. Obama added more debt in 3 years than Bush in 8. Didn't I hear Obama say debt was unpatriotic yet here he is piling it on? If a Republican did what Andrews did you would be screaming bloddy hell so where is your outrage? Maybe Corslime can give them some financial advice on how to steal your clients money and avoid jail time
Hab July 31, 2012 at 03:41 AM
The debt of 09 was in large part, to clean up the economic mess left by Bush and the GOP from 00-08! If not this country would be going thru a period worse than the Great Depression. And how much money did it cost for president Cheney to invade the wrong country? Is anyone seriously thinking about going back to all that?
redneckwillie3 July 31, 2012 at 11:09 AM
you have to blame GEORGE WASHINGTON if he didn't win our independence we wouldn't have to worry about all this crookedness from our leaders now would we.of course obama has to be put in the same catagory as good old peanut farmer jimmy carter he gives other countries millions of dollars and our people in this country are suffering.GREAT PRESIDENT HE TURNED OUT TO BE
Ric July 31, 2012 at 01:22 PM
em Watcher, I consider myself a moderate republican or now days a man without a party. I freely criticize both republicans and democrats. Neither party can claim a monopoly on corruption or incompetence. And both parties are controlled by the extremes - I hate the far right religious nutcases that dictate the republicans and I loathe the far left commies that run the democrats. I will say this; at least Obama got us National Heal Care. The republicans got us a disgraceful system of medical care that at least a 1/3 of us cannot afford; but, the republicans are trying to get us to goosestep to the Mormons who are an extremist cult and not even Christian. Mitt worships the holy white salamander but not me. It is telling that the republicans are not inviting Bush or Cheney to the convention. They led us to two wars that we lost and put us in so much debt. Even Mitt is afraid to be associated with that duo.

Andrews needs to go. He's already proven that he's a liar when he said he wouldn't run for his congressional seat if he lost his bid for the U.S. Senate. Liars shouldn't be rewarded with re-election, they should be punished with unemployment. Vote him out!
Mark July 31, 2012 at 02:21 PM
It goes hand in hand with term limits! He has been in for far too long, just as many in the congress and senate have! It is time to leave Congressman. You have served your country well, not step aside and get a REAL job and allow someone else in to to the job.
Dem Watcher July 31, 2012 at 02:28 PM
I consider myself a moderate Democrat which means I like Bill and Hillary. Obama is a disgrace. He has continued the Bush policies on the war and Gitmo and the budget spending. He said the debt was unpatriotic and it grows and grows. Our children cannot afford this debt.
Michael July 31, 2012 at 02:50 PM
I love all of the Bush bashing. I voted for him, twice, and I didn't like him. Everyone forgets the alternative that the Democrats gave us; Kerry and Edwards. If I had that choice again today, Bush/Chaney or Kerry/Edwards, I'd still vote for Bush/Chaney. Better of two evils, sort of like this years choices.

Look at West Deptford folks... Dems in power for 20+ years and what did we get? 142 Million in debt, a Sunoco/El Paso lawsuit drug out that entire time costing millions in legal fees to Angelini and the other lawyers, Riverwinds that loses over $400k a year, Township services that we need like roads and sewers left crumbling and all the cronies being paid off with lavish pensions and health care benefits. Now they are out and the Republicans are in. What do we have, lawsuit settled for a fraction of what it would have cost of if we lost in court. RiverWinds is being turned around by Jeff Hansen and the Advisory Committee. Chintall and Cianfarini are aggressively looking to resolve the tax situation and get the roads and sewers fixed. Cronies are gone, (Bye bye Daws, Docimo, Shields, Garrison, Shields, Cobb and all the others) that were sucking the blood of the West Deptford Taxpayers. So do we keep the incumbent Dems who continue to thumb their noses at us and tax and spend like drunken teenagers or do we vote in REAL change and kick them to the curb. Answer is simple.
WDNeedsHelp July 31, 2012 at 03:21 PM
To Ric, you say Nobama gave us HC. Well yes, but the costs are now estimated at over 2.9 Trillion dollars and to do what? From the numbers I've looked at it will actually cause about 30 million to lose their health care because of the funding shifts from Medicare/Medicade. So yes, Hooray, he have us Health Care that comes with massive tax hikes, fewer covered and actual taxpayers who had legit care to be dumped in crappy State run Exchanges. Yes another Great Job by the Washington Democrats !!!!
Dem Watcher July 31, 2012 at 03:47 PM
Term limits for all. No taxpayer benefits either. Who can argue with that.
Joe July 31, 2012 at 05:04 PM
I wonder, Dem Watcher, if a $7,000 coat = "out of touch", what does a $55,000 car elevator equal?
John Hayden July 31, 2012 at 06:12 PM
That's the way it used to be. I like the idea of representatives being unpaid.
Joe July 31, 2012 at 06:39 PM
Yes, unpaid representatives is a great idea. Of course, it would ensure that only the rich could/would hold public office since everybody else kinda needs a paycheck. I am down with term limits (so long as they are reasonable) and a limit to the lifetime benefits thing but I can think of no good reason for our representatives (especially at the national level) to work pro bono.
KCinCA July 31, 2012 at 06:48 PM
Why not wait to see if Andrews is guilty, or do you have the smoking gun? And please explain to me how Obama has "lined his pockets". I'm just guessing here, but I'm pretty confident that Mrs.Mittens just might have an expensive coat, or two, in her closet also. FLOTUS had a job remember, she should be able to spend her money on anything she wants. She doesn't have to act like she's poor, Ann Romney doesn't.
Dem Watcher July 31, 2012 at 06:52 PM
Paid is ok as long as the voters authorize the rates. Just no benefits. It shouldn't be a career.
Paul J. DiBartolo July 31, 2012 at 08:21 PM
Michelle Obama landed the job of Executive Director for Community Affairs at the University of Chicago Medical Center at a salary of $121,910. If memory serves me she mysteriously received this appointment after Mr. Obama became Illinois State Senator. About the time Mr. Obama was elected to the U.S. Senate, Mrs. Obama was promoted to Vice President for Community and External Affairs with a sizable salary increase to $316,962. The real kicker to all this is that when Mrs. Obama left the position to help her husband run for President the job was eliminated. Now that seems to me to have been one really important job. No wonder it commanded such a high salary. One might wonder at this point how in the world they are able to get along without her?
Shirley July 31, 2012 at 08:25 PM
Was the jacket a gift or loan from the designer or did First Lady Obama purchase it with her own money?
HomeBrew July 31, 2012 at 10:57 PM
Hope she wears her expensive coat while watching the Romneys' horse (worth tens of thousands) prance around in the Dressage event. http://www.dressageprofessionals.com/display_horse_detail.php?id=cedebb6e872f539bef8c3f919874e9d7&picture=picture1

Agreed, paid reps are a must. Publicly funded lifetime benefits and pensions for part time positions ABSOLUTELY NOT !!!! Had that for two decades in West Deptford. Not to mention Double Dipping by our wonderful Mayors Shields and Docimo who held County full time positions and worked part time for West Deptford and took benefits and pensions from both. Shields was even paid to NOT take his County benefits because the West Deptford Taxpayers were already footing the bill...Watch the Fox News report. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jccOEIHANCE
