No Fireworks This Year at Cooper River Park

Pennsauken won't hold a fireworks display this year, as the township normally does in conjunction with the Fourth of July concert at Cooper River Park.

Fireworks won't light up the night sky above Pennsauken this Fourth of July.

The township normally holds a fireworks display each year in conjunction with the "Let Freedom Rock Fest" at Cooper River Park.

But, this year the fireworks won't go off because of budget constraints, Pennsauken Administrator Ed Grochowski said in an email.

In April Camden County officials announced that the Fourth of July rock concert at the park would not be held this year because money was tight.

That same month, the county laid off roughly 260 of its workers.

For the past decade, the county freeholder board held the Independence Day concert at Cooper River Park in conjunction with Philadelphia radio station WMGK 102.9-FM.

WMGK decided to move the rock concert, which will feature Yes and Styx, to the Susquehanna Bank Center on the Camden waterfront.

Unlike the Cooper River Park concert, it will not be free.

Thanks for that information, "Kitten," although Moorestown was named the best place to live by Money magazine in 2005. Were the celebratory fireworks shot off at Wesley Bishop Field the following year? As far as what gives, I'm not sure what you mean.

It was announced back in April that the fireworks were not going to take place at Cooper River this year, due to a sponsor backing out of the celebration. This is why they had to move the concert to the S-Center in Camden and charge for admission. The announcement back in April gave ample time to find another place to go for fireworks on the 4th.

Thanks, Jen and Ginger! I should point out that Virtua Health System provided a healthy sum to our effort to have a July 4th parade in Moorestown this year! The Moorestown parade was SO much fun, even though there were no fireworks to top off the day!
