County Issues 'Code Blue' Alert, Cold Snap Anticipated Overnight

As a clipper system enters the northeastern United States early this week, Camden County has issued a “Code Blue” severe weather advisory in anticipation of rapidly dropping temperatures.

The advisory will be effective from 6 p.m. December 30 until 6 a.m. on New Year's Eve. Temperatures are expected to fall into the low 20's, with five-to-ten-mile-per-hour winds. 

Later in the week, the region has a chance of snowfall, according to the National Weather Service.

“As this mix of winter weather moves in it is essential for everyone to be out of the elements and have access to warming centers throughout the county,” said Freeholder Carmen Rodriguez, liaison to the Camden County Health Department, in a prepared statement. 

"Municipalities with homeless populations, situational homeless or transient populations are expected to activate their Code Blue response plan to accommodate their immediate needs," the statement continued.

Local governments advise residents to check in on those neighbors who are elderly, handicapped, or living along tonight to make certain that they are in heated environments. 

“It is important that most vulnerable among us are not left without heat or electricity,” Rodriguez said in a statement.
