Collingswood Awards Contract for Parking Kiosks

The job went to Global Parking Solutions, which makes the METRO parking pay station. Officials hope the new kiosks will be up within a month.

After a brief intermission, Collingswood parking kiosks should be operating again in the borough within a month.

The borough named Global Parking Solutions USA its new kiosk vendor at the Monday commissioners meeting.

"Hopefully we get back into a routine where people are simply upset that they’re paying for parking and not that the machines won’t take their money when they try to pay," Collingswood Mayor James Maley said.

Maley said that the kiosks have been non-functional for so long that the borough just decided to tag them as broken rather than to devote the resources to maintaining them.

Borough Administrator Keith Hastings and Collingswood Police Chief Richard Sarlo supported the recommendation to sign with Global Parking Solutions, he added.

But just because Metric Parking is off the job doesn't mean the company is far from the hearts of Collingswood leaders. One resident asked whether the borough would be able to recoup its losses from the kiosk vendor.

"We’ll be pursuing remedies from the prior company," Maley replied.

"Even if we don’t recover a nickel, which I think that we will, we still financially do much better replacing these machines as quickly as we can.

"And by not annoying every person that comes into town," he added.
