Camden County Hosting Job Fair

The job fair on April 6 is expected to attract about 100 employers.

The Camden County Board of Freeholders will host a job fair next month to help unite job seekers and employers.

About 100 employers are expected to attend the April 6  job fair, which is free and open to the public. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Collingswood Grand Ballroom, 315 White Horse Pike, Collingswood. Job seekers should bring copies of their resumes.

The job fair is being held in cooperation with the Camden County One-Stop Resource Center. Representatives from the center will be on hand to offer advice on resume writing and searching for a job.

A new addition to the job fair is "makeovers." Representatives  from the resource center and local salons will offer tips for dressing for success, as well as free makeup consults.

“Many of our constituents are looking for work and can’t find it. Adding to that frustration is the fact that the job market can be difficult to navigate through,” said Freeholder Director Louis Cappelli Jr. “The only way we’re going to get through this recession is together, so we’re holding this job fair as a chance for us to reach out and help bridge the gap between job seekers and employers.”

Camden County's unemployment rate is 9.7 percent, about the national average of 9.1 percent. However, Camden County officials said, the county's current unemployment rate is down from the December 2009 rate of 10.6 percent.

“This is a great opportunity for employers to gain access to a local ready and willing workforce,” Cappelli said. “Having employees from the communities that you serve strengthens your business and makes our communities stronger. We encourage employers to attend and hope anyone in the job-hunting process will take advantage of this free event.”

Space is still available, so employers who would like to participate at no cost can sign up through a form available on camdencounty.com. Employers looking for more information can contact Debbie Sutherland at 856-968-4212 or dsutherland@camdencounty.com.

A complete list of companies attending the job fair will be published on camdencounty.com at least a week before the event.

Along with the Board of Freeholders and One-Stop Resource Center, event sponsors include the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development, Camden County Workforce Investment Board, Camden County College, and the Camden County Improvement Authority.
