Camco Emergency Notification System Hits 200k Enrollees

The electronic system is used to notify residents of important updates on concerns such as severe weather or major road closings.

Camden County's emergency notification system has enrolled more than 200,000 people since it started in 2009, the county announced this week.

Through the program, county residents can receive emails, texts, pages and pre-recorded phone calls from the Camden County Office of Emergency Management.

“Residents can visit the county website to select the means by which they would like to be notified in case of an emergency,” said county Freeholder Rodney Greco, liaison to the county Office of Emergency Management.

Camden County uses Swiftreach Networks, Inc. as its emergency notification service provider. Their SWIFT911 system is a high-speed notification program with the capability of delivering recorded warnings to the entire community.

The system can contact up to four telephone numbers until reaching the designated party. Emergency messages are able to reach TTY (teletypewriter) phones used by those who are hearing impaired. Additionally, the system employs a Do Not Call component for those who do not wish to receive the alert.

“We are in the age of technology where nearly everyone is connected to each other through cell phones and computers,” Greco said. “This is a great way for us to reach out, in whatever way is most convenient, to notify you in cases of emergency or for any other important updates.”

All of the correspondence residents receive through the Emergency Notification System is identified as having come from Camden County.
