CamCo Braces for Nor'Easter

The following press release was issued by the Camden County Board of Chosen Freeholders.

A severe storm warning has been put into effect for Camden County as we prepare for a powerful Nor’easter to pass through the area in the next 24 hours.

While the Department of Public Works (DPW) monitors the forecast for any changes in the current weather system we have all hands on deck today checking and clearing inlets and culverts, ensuring that water can easily flow off of our more than 400 miles of roadway throughout the county. 

“In case of a significant change in the weather, trucks are outfitted for treating the highway for freezing conditions and any snow that may accumulate,” said Freeholder Ian Leonard, liaison to the Camden County DPE.

“Crews are in and will remain on duty until the storm has passed through the region and are prepared for cleanup in the aftermath.”

Our current forecast is calling for temperatures in the mid to upper 30's and winds that will veer to the northeast and east at 5 to 15 mph, increasing to 10 to 20 mph by this evening.

As a low-pressure system tracks towards southern New Jersey tonight, if there is a wintry mix, it will change over to all rain throughout our region. Heavy rain is expected with amounts of one to two inches. Strong wind gusts of over 40 mph can be expected leading to the threat for wind damage and power outages.

“In preparation of high winds for a sustained period of time, all tree crews have been tuning up chainsaws and preparing for downed trees throughout the County,” Leonard said.

“These crews removed more than 150 trees during Hurricane Sandy and will stand at the ready to make sure all county highways can be traversed tomorrow.”

The storm will exit by tomorrow afternoon with clearing skies and winds from the northwest at 10 to 20 mph with gusts over 30 mph through tomorrow night.
