Borough Raises Cap on Dog Licensing Fees

Commissioners passed an ordinance at their Monday meeting to raise the cap on municipal dog licensing fees.

Collingswood commissioners approved an ordinance amendment on Nov. 7 that will raise the yearly cap on dog licensing fees to $21.

According to the official ordinance, the amendment "is in the best interest of the borough's residents."

Under the amendment, the following dog licensing fees now apply to all license applicants:

  • $17 fee for every spayed or neutered dog
  • $21 for every non-spayed or non-neutered dog
  • Included in this fee is a $1 state registration fee, a pilot clinic fee of 20¢ for dogs who are not neutered or spayed, and a $3 surcharge fee

The amendment increases licensing fees by $1 for non-spayed and non-neutered dogs (formerly $20 per dog). The increases spayed and neutered dog licenses by $2 (up from $15 per dog).

The current licenses of all borough dog owners, according to the ordinance, will expire on Dec. 31, 2011.

All expired licenses are renewable in 2012.
