Borough Orders Business Owners, Employees to Buy $132 Annual Parking Permits

Letters were sent to borough businesses, notifying them of a new parking requirement, which will require employees and business owners to purchase $132 annual parking permits.

A letter from the , signed by Collingswood Police Chief Richard Sarlo, was sent to business owners this week as notification of a new parking requirement. 

Applicable to business owners and their employees, the letter states that all must purchase annual parking permits for a fee of $132. 

"Beginning September 19, borough business owners and employees will be able to purchase parking permits to park in designated areas downtown," the letter begins. "Since permits will be required starting October 1, employees can purchase a permit that will be valid for the remainder of 2011 and all of 2012 for $165."

The letter continues to say that permits can be paid for in two installments of $82.50 each. The first installment is reportedly due, "At the time of (permit) application submission," and the second half must be paid by June 30. 

"Business permits give business owners and employees one unassigned space in one of two designated parking areas, based on your business location," the letter reads.

Borough officials said Irvin Avenue has been designated as the line of demarcation for assigned parking. A breakdown is as follows, according to the letter:

  • Businesses located from Irvin Ave., West, to Browning Rd.:
    • LumberYard Parking Garage (Green Permits)
  • Businesses located from Irvin Ave., East, to Cuthbert Ave.:
    • Lot No. 2, along Atlantic Ave., by (Orange Permits)

According to the letter, permits are valid to use at all times—including after business hours, and on the weekends.

Beginning on Monday, Sept. 19, employees and business owners can apply for permits. Permit applications may be submitted from 9 a.m. through 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, at , located at 735 Atlantic Ave. 

Permit purchases may be made via check or cash, according to the letter, and payments are due when applications are accepted, at the time of permit pickup. 

Vehicles will reportedly use decals to designate their permit parking status. 

According to the letter, permit parking enforcement will begin on Saturday, Oct. 1. Those in possession of a previous permit will no longer be considered valid parkers on that date, said the letter.
