Borough Needs Volunteers for Park Cleanup

Vandalism and other issues have caused commissioners to organize a cleanup of The Knight Park early next month.

Arguably one of the most scenic parks in the region, borough commissioners are dedicated to keeping that way.

At its Oct. 3 meeting, the commission announced a cleanup of The Knight Park, to be held at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 5.

"We've had some vandalism at (The Knight Park)," Commissioner Mike Hall said. "And we've had to ask police to step-up patrols (there to combat the vandalism)."

Hall cited graffiti and etching of the pavilion as among the park vandalism noted.

"So we'll have a general park cleanup day on Nov. 5, during which volunteers will paint the park pavilion, cut down (dead) trees and help keep the park at its best," he said.

Commissioners called for volunteers during the meeting, asking residents to take part in the cleanup.

"The Knight Park is the jewel of Collingswood," said Hall. "This event is a fun day for our community, and lets folks give back to one of the best assets our town has to offer."

Families are invited to help, including all children 12 years or older. Volunteers will be provided breakfast and a lunch—which will be held in the park's newly revamped pavilion—during the cleanup.

Volunteer duties will include clearing out trees—which  will supervise.

Volunteers are asked to bring any cleanup equipment to the park on Nov. 5, including but not limited to rakes, shovels, gloves and leaf blowing machines.

Those who are interested in volunteering during the cleanup can RSVP by emailing knightparkcleanup@collingswood.com

The cleanup will be rescheduled in the event of inclement weather, and a rain date is to be determined.

"Bring your rakes, your gloves, and your good back (on Nov. 5)," said Hall. "Because we're going to clean up The Knight Park together."
