Voorhees Standoff Draws Cherry Hill, Gloucester Township Police

A teen barricaded himself inside a home on Burnham Lane Sunday.

Officers from multiple towns were drawn to the Voorhees and Cherry Hill border Sunday for an hours-long standoff that ended peacefully around 4:30 p.m.

Hiren and Indira Gala called 911 to report that a teen had violated a restraining order they’d taken out against him, and was in the home, said Voorhees Chief Louis Bordi. Voorhees officers arrived to the Galas fleeing the house.

“The suspect barricaded himself and advised he was not coming out,” Bordi said.

Several homes on Burnham Lane in the Beagle Club, a residential development off Cooper Road about a mile from the Cherry Hill Township line, were evacuated during the incident, which drew a Special Response Team from Gloucester Township and officers from Cherry Hill to assist Voorhees Police.

Police spent several hours negotiating with the teen, who eventually surrendered around 4:30 p.m., Bordi said.
