Second Suspect Now Sought in Sunoco Shooting

Footage recovered by Collingswood police reveals that the alleged gunman not only didn't act alone, but didn't give the attendant a chance to comply before firing on him.

Collingswood Police Chief Richard Sarlo did not mince words in offering his opinion of suspects sought in the Sunday evening robbery of a Route 130 gas station that left one man hospitalized with a gunshot wound to the leg.

"Vicious, cowardly, animalistic—they don't even belong in society," Sarlo told Patch.

New details that emerged Monday have not only angered the chief but added more work to his caseload, as surveillance footage from the Sunoco station indicates that the robbery was a two-man job.

Two still photos captured from the gas station video camera show what appears to be the gunman, clad in dark clothes and a ski mask, brandishing a firearm at the terrified gas station attendant, who can be seen backing away from him.

The third photo shows a second man, similarly attired, hiding between the pumps and a white box truck that police say was already on the lot and was not involved in the incident.

Nothing in the photos seems to indicate that the attendant—who was shot in the leg and will have surgery to repair a broken or shattered femur, Sarlo said—tried to resist his attackers in any way.

"The attendant was probably scared," Sarlo said. "He doesn't speak that good of English. It doesn't look like there was any type of struggle."

If anything could make the victim's plight more tragic, it's that he is not even a regular employee of the gas station, and only works there occasionally to help out the owner, Sarlo said.

"Here's a guy just trying to make a few bucks on the side," Sarlo said. "He's going to have months of rehab.

"To shoot this poor gas attendant without even giving him the chance to give them the money...it was a vicious act," he said.

Police do not have any new information about the whereabouts of the suspects at this time. They have followed up on a few reports of vehicles and noise in the area at the time of the shooting, but have not been able to determine whether those details are related. Anyone with any information about the incident is asked to call the Collingswood Police Department at 856-854-1901.

In the meantime, Sarlo is advising citizens to keep their wits—and their phones—about them.

"When you pull up to gas stations, if you see anyone lingering around, pick up the phone," he said.

"I'd love to see this guy off the street."
